Care Guide

The complete care guide for AVA finishes, ensuring optimum aesthetic and performance

AVA brassware can add a touch of luxury and make a statement that elevates your bathroom. There are several possibilities when choosing AVA brassware for your bathroom; whatever your choice of collection and finish, all of our products are finished to a very high standard and special care is needed to maintain the beauty of your product.

It is important to understand how to take care of your new brassware, so please read our care guide to maintain the look and finish of your product as well as ensure the guarantee is not invalidated.

Our Stainless Steel Finishes
Some of our AVA collections contain products with a non-corrosive 304 grade stainless steel exterior. This includes our Trend & Purity collections which are available in 4 special finish colours: polished stainless steel, brushed stainless steel, brushed brass, and brushed black.

The different special finish colours are infused into the stainless steel surface in a special vacuum chamber where the PVD process is carried out. PVD stands for physical vapour deposition and refers to a process of bonding the finish to the brassware, offering a flawless, durable and high quality surface.

While PVD is renowned for its durability and high resistance to damage, you should never use any harsh cleaning detergents which may contain acidic or corrosive chemicals and avoid abrasive tools such as a rough cloth, toothbrush or scouring pad; this may cause permanent damage to your new brassware or accessories. Instead, follow the daily care instructions and ideal care guidelines below.

Daily Care Instructions:
Rinse away any soap residues with warm water as soon as possible
Dry your special finish products carefully with a soft, clean cloth after each use

Ideal Care for PVD Brassware:
Soft microfibre cloths are best for cleaning special finish brassware
Clean your special finish brassware regularly with warm water only or warm water combined with a mild pH-neutral liquid soap
After cleaning, always use a soft, clean cloth immediately afterwards to dry your special finish brassware and prevent watermarks
To remove limescale, we advise a homemade solution with equal parts lemon juice and water OR equal parts vinegar and water. Apply the solution to some cotton wool or a soft, clean cloth and wrap this around the affected area. Leave on for no more than 15-25 minutes to avoid a build-up of the citric acid. Once the cotton wool or cloth has been removed, rinse off with warm water and dry fully with a soft, clean cloth.

Ideal Care for Showers
Your shower head and hand shower will come in direct contact with water and particularly if you live in a hard water area, the build up of limescale is often inevitable. Over time, limescale can cause blockages and affect water flow. Therefore, it is important to look after your shower head and hand shower to maintain the look and performance of your product as well as ensure the guarantee is not invalidated. Follow the below care instructions and guidelines or seek the help of a professional, if required.

- Rinse away any soap residues with warm water as soon as possible
- Use a soft, clean cloth to dry your shower head and hand shower after each use
- At least once a year, remove any O-rings and aerators from your shower head and hand shower so you can rinse them and remove any limescale
- We also recommend that you clean or descale your shower head and hand shower every two months by soaking them in a bag with a vinegar solution for up to 30 minutes. Rinse the shower head and hand shower off with warm water afterwards and dry fully with a soft, clean cloth.

Ideal Care For Cartridges
Thermostatic cartridges are the parts in your shower valves and basin taps that regulate the flow and temperature of the water. Cartridges are not visible parts, but it is still important to look after them as they play a vital role in the performance of your products. We recommend that you soak your cartridges in a vinegar solution for about an hour every two years. Make sure that you isolate the flow of water first and seek the help of a professional, if needed.
